appoints Rick Gilbody acting president of the Americas. Reporting to chief operating officer Les Rechan, Rick will be responsible for Americas sales and solutions initiatives and driving market growth. Rick joined Cognos in 2000 as the Americas vice president of finance and administration. Previously, he worked for IBM, Lotus Development, Instron Corporation and General Electric. He has 25 years of experience in finance and operations, including 16 years in the software industry. Mel Zeledon joins the company as senior vice-president, global alliances, arriving with more than 22 years of experience in the business software industry. Mel formerly served as vice president of partner sales at Hyperion Solutions, and earlier in his career led global strategic alliance relationships at Siebel Systems. Before that he led sales and alliances at application service provider Applicast, and founded and managed Oracle’s subsidiary and resellers in Central America. Mel has BS in electrical engineering from the University of Costa Rica, and was a Fulbright Scholar at Stanford, where he earned a master's degree in computer science.
