OCRI appoints new chair, eight board members

First representative of the research-based health sector, Michel Bilodeau, given seat

Previous OCRI global marketing chair Gary Hannah is named chairman of the economic development organization, succeeding outgoing chair Deborah Weinstein. His appointment and that of eight new board members was formally announced at OCRI’s annual general meeting, held at the Brookstreet Hotel. “I …look forward to the opportunity to OCRI.jpgfocus on the recent OCRI/OLSC merger and the bringing together of Ottawa’s research hospitals and private sectors, providing linkages to the tremendous amount of research and investments done in eastern Ontario,” says Hannah, CEO and chairman of Vocantas Inc. and president and CEO of Pronexus Inc. Life sciences entrepreneur Ken Newport and Jeff Westeinde, CEO, Quantum Environmental Group, were appointed vice chairs. Newport was previously on the OLSC board, as were new Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation board members Greg Arnsdorff, president, Abbott Point of Care Inc., and David McInnes, VP of international relations, MDS Nordion. The other advisors elected are: Lise Bourgeois, directrice de l’éducation et secrétaire-trésorière, Conseil des Ecoles Catholiques de Langue Francaise du Centre-Est; CHEO president Michel Bilodeau; Dave Curley, VP, marketing, QNX Software Systems; Brian Hurley, president and CEO of Liquid Computing; and Robin McIntyre, regional president, Rogers Cable. Weinstein, of business law firm LaBarge Weinstein, will remain on the board as past chair.
