Thermal teaming with Chinese university

Thermal Energy International Inc. is working with the South China University of Technology (SCUT) and the Chinese government to find ways to use the company’s new green technology in China. With backing from Chinese authorities, Thermal Thermal%20Energy.jpgand SCUT are establishing a joint R&D laboratory in Guangzhou, China, which will focus on industrial applications for Thermal Energy’s THERMALONOx nitrogen oxides (NOx) removal technology. The system will be demonstrated at a coal-fired power plant in Guangdong province, with the university contributing funding and covering testing costs. The two parties will also explore joint R&D projects for greenhouse gas removal, including an opportunity for Thermal to bring SCUT’s bioremediation technology for air pollution control to the North American market. Estimates show that without NOx reduction technology, China and other Asian countries could account for 22 million tons of NOx emissions annually by 2020, almost 75 % of total NOx emissions from coal-fired power plants worldwide. With THERMALONOx capable of removing up to 98% of NOx from a flue gas stream, Thermal is poised to profit greatly from that market. The non-exclusive, two-year agreement will be supported by the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and the Guangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau.
