U researchers get $21 million
Professors and researchers at University of Ottawa and
Carleton University will receive $21.2 million from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council
of Canada’s (NSERC) $583.3-million, 2007 grants and scholarships program. Ninety-seven uOttawa researchers will get $12.4 million to pursue projects in a wide range of fields, while 75 Carleton researchers will receive $8.8 million. A release on uOttawa’s website highlights four funded projects, including that of School of Information Technology and Engineering assistant professor Diana Inkpen. Inkpen and her team of students are developing a speech information retrieval system that will improve accessibility to information in audio documents on the Internet.
