uOttawa business school given $25 million
University of Ottawa School of Management is pledged $25 million by business leader and former alumnus Ian Telfer, Chairman of Goldcorp Inc. The largest gift in U of O history
will see the school rededicated as the Telfer School of Management when it moves into the new Desmarais Building, named after another generous school benefactor. “The reason I am so proud to support the [school] is because I have experienced first hand the positive impact the school can have on the lives of its alumni,” says Telfer, who graduated with an MBA in 1976. “Over 30 years ago the School of Management made an investment in me - now it's my turn to return the favour and make an investment in the school.” With the preponderance going to endowments and support programs, Telfer’s donation will be used to enhance the business school’s programs and raise its profile. “We are very fortunate to have secured a gift of this magnitude from notable alumnus and recognized business leader who has expressed a desire to engage with us in a meaningful and visible manner,” says Micheal J. Kelly, the school’s dean. “This gift represents a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for the University of Ottawa School of Management to maintain our momentum and realization of our ambitions.”
