Wi-LAN acquires key patent
Wi-LAN Inc. acquires a communications patent which it claims covers technology found in virtually all cable modems or cable set-top boxes used, sold or manufactured in the US. The IP licensing company paid about US$1.1 million for patent, U.S. 5,761,602. ”This patent is a great find for us,” says Jim Skippen, Wi-LAN CEO. “With 2006 US sales of cable set-top boxes alone estimated at over $2.5 billion, this represents a significant market opportunity for us.”
