EMS Satcom developing system for Boeing 747-8
Wireless and satellite communication solutions company EMS Satcom has been selected by lead
contractor Rockwell Collins International to develop a satellite communication system for Boeing’s 747-8. Worth approximately $15 million over ten years, the deal will have the Ottawa division of Atlanta-based EMS Technologies retrofitting both the passenger and freight versions of the aircraft with its in-flight voice and data technology for Inmarsat SwiftBroadband. The agreement is the latest in a series of aviation industry contract wins for Satcom, which will result in its technology and products being installed as standard equipment on “all the largest passenger aircraft,” including the Boeing 747-8 and the Airbus A380, according to the company. It will also be installed as factory options on the Airbus A340, A330 and A320.
