Mobile Knowledge Corp. is outfitting the 60-vehicle fleet of St. Catharines, Ont.-based Central Taxi with its eXpert dispatch software and series 9006 mobile data terminal. The GPS and wireless communications technology will give cab drivers improved communication with the dispatch office and allow cars to be tracked by GPS in the case of an emergency. It will also enable drivers to process non-cash fares and monitor traffic. The company recently became a supplier for the 13,000-vehicle fleet of the City of New York, which has ordered 5,000 of Mobile’s rear-seat passenger information monitors (PIMs) and Series 2000 driver interface product. Supported by Mobile’s partner managing agent Creative Mobile Technologies, the PIMs will carry advertising, “back-office” features, news feeds and public service announcements.
