Nordion and uOttawa opening R&D centre

MDS Nordion and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute are establishing a $US2.2-million centre of excellence for molecular cardiac imaging research. The medical isotopes and MDS.jpgradiopharmaceuticals company will bring financing and new specialized equipment to the radiochemistry lab, which aims to advance cardiology research using molecular imaging technology. The facility will help researchers develop drugs more efficiently and allow physicians to make earlier diagnoses and determine the best treatment for patients. It will also allow Nordion to provide its molecular imaging services to large pharmaceutical companies, helping them commercialize new, less-costly drugs. The centre of excellence is slated to open in late 2007 on the Heart Institute’s campus.
