Primus opens green data centre in capital

Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. opens a second Internet data centre in Ottawa to meet demand for its managed services. When finished, the new 18,000-square foot facility will store servers and other equipment requiring continuous connection to the Internet. It will provide capability for hosting, managed system administration and managed security, as well as continuous online backup, security and storage solutions for mission-critical applications and data. The centre is expected to reduce consumption and waste of electricity by 50% or more through the use of high-efficiency module unlimited power supply (UPS) systems, green transformers, economizers in the cooling system and built-in motion detectors in the lighting system. Primus will hire seven or eight new local staff to help run the centre.
