Zarlink buying Texas voice tech company

Zarlink Semiconductor Inc. is acquiring Austin, Texas-based Legerity Holdings Inc. in a (all figures in $US) $134.5 million transaction that will allow the Ottawa company to expand in the Zarlink.jpgvoice communications equipment market. Zarlink is financing the purchase of the privately-held voice integrated circuits maker with cash and by drawing on a credit line of up to $50 million. The combined semiconductor company would have revenues in excess of $250 million and, with the addition of 216 Legerity employees, a global workforce of almost 900. Zarlink says it expects the deal, which is expected to close in late July, will allow it to save more than $7 million yearly.
