Med-Eng launches next-generation helmet for bomb disposal techs
Personal protective equipment maker Med-Eng Systems Inc. is marketing what is claims is the first protective helmet designed to allow bomb disposal technicians to work without interference from hostile electromagnetic activity. Built with assistance from the Canadian Research and Technology Initiative and funding from the RCMP, the EOD 9A helmet actively shields its on-board support systems from disruptive radio waves created by electronic counter-measures equipment. The headgear, which operates in concert with Med-Eng platforms including the EOD 9 suit, personal cooling systems and remote handling tools, is currently being assessed for use by coalition forces.
