Semiconductor Insights under gavel

Semiconductor Insights is in the process of being acquired by New York media and marketing solutions company CMP Technology, which has offered US$26 million for the Ottawa-based company. CMP, a subsidiary of United Business Media, says it has also tabled a further US$8 million, to be deferred over the next three years subject to certain stipulations. Semiconductor Insights, which reverse-engineers and analyzes integrated circuits and electronic systems, has been on the block since 2006 when CMP Technology, looking to expand beyond its publication business, approached late Semiconductor Insight’s CEO Doug Smeaton. Smeaton, who died in a scuba-diving incident in February, bought Semiconductor Insights in 1994 from its erstwhile US owners.
