Wi-LAN Inc. licences its wireless networking equipment patents to Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., maker of the Panasonic
brand of electronic products. The 5-year deal will have Japanese Matsushita remitting a per-unit fee on all Panasonic notebook computers sold in North America using Wi-LAN-patented technologies. “We are pleased to have licensed Matsushita for the use of Wi-LAN’s intellectual property within its highly acclaimed Panasonic computers,” says Wi-LAN boss Jim Skippen. “Matsushita and Fujitsu, which are two of the top 10 notebook vendors in the US, have now licensed our technology for use in their notebook computers. We look forward to licensing the remaining notebook vendors to our wireless technologies.”
