Telesat Canada’s sister company, Space Systems/Loral, is selected to provide a high- capacity broadband satellite for San Diego based ViaSat Inc. SS/L’s parent and Telesat major shareholder, -
Loral Space & Communications, says ViaSat-1 is expected to be the world’s highest capacity broadband satellite. Loral is investing in the orbiter in anticipation of Telesat Canada utilizing ViaSat-1’s designated capacity for Canadian services, as well as providing telemetry, tracking and control operations. Scheduled to launch in 2011 and targeted for Telesat’s 115 West longitude orbital slot, the new spacecraft is expected to have a service life of 15 years.
