SolaCom Technologies is providing its voice communication control system (VCCS) to the Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba. The Ottawa-based company says the installation of its Liberty-STAR technology, which will include eight touch screen operator positions, 10 radio interfaces and 20 telephone interfaces, will replace the aging system at the Reina Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba. A turnkey solution with installation, factory and site training, it is the latest in a number of sales the privately-held SolaCom has made to air traffic authorities in the Caribbean, the new turnkey solution comes with installation, and factory and site training. “This contract further solidifies SolaCom’s position as the leading VCCS supplier for the Caribbean and Central American region, with installations in Barbados, Venezuela, the Bahamas, Colombia, Mexico and the Cayman Islands, among other countries.” says Pierre Plangger, VP of air traffic controls sales and marketing. The tiny island of Aruba (pop: 104,000) lies 30 kilometers off the coast of Venezuela. Its recently updated airport is one of the busiest in the Caribbean, serving 2.6 million passengers a year.
