First wireless licence
Mosaid Technologies Inc. signs up its first licensee for its wireless patents. The Ottawa-based company says Osaka’s Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., best known for its Panasonic brand of products, signed a six-and-half-year term licence for Mosaid’s wireless patents for, notably, Wi-Fi, WiMAX and CDMA-enabled notebook PCs. Mosaid bought its 20 wireless technology patents last Feb. from Agere Systems (now LSI Corp.) for $70 million, as it shed its semiconductor business to become a pure-play patent licencer. The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal with Matsushita.
