hired, as principal researcher for OSSEC development, Daniel Cid, the project’s creator and primary developer. “OSSEC is a very successful open source security project, and there are many organizations that are requesting enterprise-calibre support for their OSSEC deployments,” says Third Brigade CEO Wael Mohamed. “Like Third Brigade, OSSEC is committed to delivering best-of-breed, host-based security controls for multi-platform, enterprise server environments. Together, we will ensure the continued success of this thriving open source community through dedicated resources and extended support.” Begun in 2003, OSSEC is a multi-platform, scalable host-based intrusion detection system currently providing security controls for users in some 40 countries, including two of the largest US commercial banks and more than 150 universities and colleges.
