New suits
Wi-LAN Inc. launches new patent litigation lawsuits against three companies, including heavyweights Motorola and Research in Motion. The company
accuses Motorola Inc., Research in Motion Corp., Research in Motion Ltd. and UTStarCom Inc., located in Calif., of infringing and continuing to infringe upon wireless patents RE37,802 and 5,282,222, by making and/or selling products that contain technology covered by the two patents. Wi-LAN’s case, which is being tried in the US district court for the eastern district of Texas, Marshall Division, will be pled by US law firm McKool Smith, which also represented the company in its November litigation launched against 22 companies. One of those companies, Marvell Semiconductor Inc., recently settled with Wi-LAN. Terms of the settlement were not released.
