RTOS for military radios
QNX Software Systems’ Neutrino real-time operating system (RTOS) is being embedded in radios used by the US military. The company says Florida-based Harris Corp. is installing the operating system in its software-defined tactical radios used by the military. “Other RTOS vendors may claim support for the SDR market, but as this announcement demonstrates, QNX leads the pack in successful, field-deployed, and certified SDR products,” says QNX chief executive Dan Dodge. “In fact, the modularity and dynamically upgradeable architecture of the QNX Neutrino RTOS makes it the perfect platform for SDR, providing the flexibility, scalability, and adaptability essential to any successful SDR implementation.” Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
