Staff cuts

Pacific Safety Products Inc. lays off PSP.JPGapproximately 8% of staff not involved in manufacturing to save $1 million in yearly operating costs. The body armour maker, which employs most of its 140 local staff at a factory in Arnprior, dropped $220,891 into the red in fiscal 2008, on revenues which were down 12%. “This reduction of non-production staff at PSP is a difficult but necessary step in our plan to realize efficiencies in the final consolidation of our domestic business model,” says CEO David Scott. “While our current overall orders volume remains strong, we believe it is prudent in this uncertain economic climate to reduce our expenses wherever appropriate.”
