20 let go
OTTAWA – JDS Uniphase Canada Ltd. (JDSU) lays off approximately 20 employees at its Ottawa location as part of a wide-scale cost reduction plan. JDSU spokesperson, Kathleen Greene, says the global downsizing is due to continuing economic trouble. With currently about 6,600 employees worldwide, the optical communications equipment firm has been forced to make heavy, widespread cuts, though it is unclear how many have been let go. The company is now based in Milipitas, California, after a move from Ottawa, the site of one of its two original headquarters.
