OCRI taps tech emissary for top job

The Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) scoops veteran tech Haw%2C%20Claude137X218.jpgentrepreneur, investor and industry ambassador Claude Haw as its new president and CEO. Succeeding outgoing chief executive Jeffrey Dale, he assumes his new job immediately. Mr. Haw has for more than three decades played a lead part in building the capital’s tech community, helping to launch numerous startups and playing a key role at over 30 companies, in management or in an advisory capacity, or both. He is a charter member of TiE Ottawa, a global networking group for entrepreneurs, as well as a founder of Mindrust, the exclusive networking forum for local tech CEOs. He is also a founder of the The Ottawa Network, a group of entrepreneur mentors providing a helping hand to new companies in the region.
“The selection committee reviewed several excellent candidates, which at first glance appeared to be a daunting task, and Claude’s profile quickly rose to the top,” says Gary Hannah, chairman of OCRI. “Ottawa has evolved into an economic centre with a very diverse base unlike anywhere else in Canada. Claude understands this and he’s committed to helping the entire Ottawa region, our stakeholders and members tap into and benefit from this distinct strength.”
Mr. Haw will no doubt make a smooth, official entry into Ottawa’s lead economic agency, having worked closely with OCRI in recent years, notably in connection with the Ottawa Cleantech Initiative and Ottawa Venture and Technology Showcase. “I have experienced the degree of commitment and professionalism of the staff and various stakeholders of OCRI,” he says. “As the world faces economic uncertainty, Ottawa, with its diverse economy and strength in the areas of cleantech, life sciences and ICT, is in an excellent position to tip the scales and continue to strengthen the city’s reputation as a global centre of innovation.” Click here to see Mr. Haw’s full bio.
