IDC signs supply deal, debuts 3D gear

OTTAWA – International Datacasting Corp. (IDC) signs a major equipment supply deal with Germany’s second-largest public broadcaster, Sud-IDC-cropped.JPGWest-Rundfunk (SWR), while its 3D, high definition gear features in rollout of a new digital cinema network in Europe. The satellite broadcasting tech and content company says its European subsidiary, PROFline, has been chosen by Stuttgart-based SWR to provide an end-to-end FM broadcasting system for a next-generation satellite distribution network that will serve 14.7 million residents within a 55,600-square-kilometre area. At the same time, IDC’s first Pro Cinema 3D live decoders, developed with Sensio technology, are used for the first time, in a broadcast over a European digital cinema network the company previously provided to Italian network operator OpenSky. Pro Cinema supports both 2D and 3D live and pre-recorded events, “which provides movie houses and other venues increased new revenue opportunities via alternative content programming,” says IDC.
