Third Brigade being sold to Trend Micro

OTTAWA – Security software company Third Brigade is being bought by antivirus Third_Brigade-128X63.JPGsoftware maker Trend Micro Inc. for an unspecified sum. Japan-based Trend Micro, which did more than $1 billion in sales in its most recent fiscal year, makes the popular PC-cillin and ServerProtect software, while Third Brigade produces Deep Security software, which protects computers from hackers. The two have an existing relationship, integrating Third Brigade’s firewall product with the OfficeScan system over the past year and a half. Trend Micro says the deal will not result in any layoffs of the 50 staff at Third Brigade’s Ottawa head office, which will become headquarters of Trend Micro Canada Technologies Inc., an operating subsidiary of Trend Micro U.S.
