Western team using stem cells to grow blood vessels
LONDON – A team of researchers from the Robarts Research Institute at The University of Western Ontario finds a way to grow new blood vessels using stem cells from bone marrow. The research could lead to treatments for reduced blood flow (ischemia) in limbs – an often painful condition that can lead to amputation – and diseases such as peripheral artery disease, a severe complication of diabetes.
