Wi-LAN acquires 200 more patents

OTTAWA – IP licencer Wi-LAN Inc. is putting up US$16 million to add more than 200 patented inventions to its portfolio. The company says it has secured Wi-LAN%20Colour%20Logo115X56.jpgthe rights to technologies from several companies, including Airspan Networks Inc., Germany’s Infineon Technologies AG and Technology Research Laboratories. “These acquisitions are an important investment in our business and our future,” says Jim Skippen, chairman & CEO. “They will serve to strengthen our wireless program significantly, and will also permit the development of new licencing programs. Our large cash balance and continuing business success, enables us to make these purchases and still maintain a very strong cash position.” The new patents, which relate primarily to wireless mobile networking, image processing, biometrics, optical networking and multi-antenna wireless systems, bring the total number of patents in Wi-LAN’s portfolio to more than 520, issued and pending.
