Zarlink signs ToP deal with Chinese firm
OTTAWA – Zarlink Semiconductor inks a contract with ZTE Corp., located in China, which will use its timing-over-packet (ToP) devices in technology for voice, multimedia, data and mobile services over new wireless networks. “Our timing products are winning designs in new equipment targeting next-generation wireless network deployments, particularly in countries such as China where government stimulus packages are accelerating telecommunications infrastructure spending,” says Zarlink CEO Kirk Mandy. “Long-standing relationships with leading manufacturers such as ZTE, and an expanded timing portfolio that addresses revenue and cost concerns for service providers, has strengthened our market position.” Zarlink’s ToP products send timing and synchronization information between radio network controllers and remote base stations over a higher bandwidth Ethernet network, allowing operators to replace expensive multiple leased lines with a less costly system.
