WATERLOO – Research In Motion Ltd. and California-based mobile messaging services provider Visto Corp. agree to settle their patent dispute and cease litigation. The arrangement gives the Blackberry maker a perpetual licence to all Visto patents and various IP for US$267.5 million. Since 2006, RIM has shelled out close to US$900 million to settle patent fights related to technology used in its handheld devices.
